To compile the U.S. News-Best Lawyers® "Best Law Firms" rankings a national survey was distributed to firm clients and leading lawyers asking who they considered best in their practice area. Then survey responses were combined with 3.1 million evaluations of individual lawyers in the most recent Best Lawyers® survey of leading lawyers.

U.S. News-Best Lawyers® received 9,514 survey responses from clients including Fortune 100 and Fortune 1,000 companies who gave 194,370 firm practice-area evaluations; 6,190 clients provided 11,181 comments about law firms practice areas and individual lawyers and 8,842 lawyers provide 594,012 firm practice area evaluations.
